Snowboard conservation is easy! Pick up a damp cloth. Now wipe the snowboard thoroughly. Done! Put it on the balcony until next winter and forget about it. Forever.

We're not kidding. This is how 70% of snowboarders prepare a board for storage. Why is this wrong? The edges will rust from moisture. And temperature changes will disrupt the geometry of the board. You will get it at the beginning of winter from the balcony and be unpleasantly surprised. Then you will take it to the service to remove rust and revive the coating. And you will blame yourself why you didn't do it all at once, as soon as the season ended.

If you don't have time to read the entire article, there are two main tips below.

  • Clean the joint and cover it with paraffin.
  • Store the board so that nothing presses on it. Ideally - in a horizontal position, for example, under the bed.

A base of a healthy person

The board has a high-tech coating that needs to be taken care of. The loss of moisture is deadly for him. Therefore, after completing the season, a base needs to be cleaned and protected.

    1. Remove the fasteners so that they do not interfere with your work with the board.

A useful tip (even two)! Before removing the fasteners, take a few photos. Then you won't have to remember which corners you had.

Put the bolts in the bag and tie them to the straps (fasteners). You don’t have to search for it later.

    2. Thoroughly clean the board from visible dirt. To do this, wash it with warm water. Wash off dirt, sand, etc. It is permissible to use a small amount of soap and a soft brush or sponge.

Dry the clean board thoroughly. There should not be even a hint of moisture anywhere. This is especially true for the bolt holes that fix the fasteners.

Carefully examine your base. If it is clean, proceed to the next step. If you find ingrained dirt or remnants of paraffin, take a loop (scraper) and clean it. Just without fanaticism, do not damage the coating.

Important! A special cleaning liquid is sold in sports shops. It is recommended to use in the most severe cases.

    3. Now you will need an iron (the simplest, without steam holes) and paraffin. Iron is not a problem to find, and paraffin is sold in any sports store. It's better to take a universal, all-weather one.

Important! There are several types of paraffin. A solid one is needed for preservation.

Put the smoothing-iron to heat up. Do not put on maximum power, paraffin melts at 65-80 degrees. Now lay the newspapers on the floor and put the board on them with the base up.

    4. Take the paraffin in your hand and start melting it with an iron over the board. Your task is to get the drops of paraffin on the base. There should be a lot of paraffin. After that, smooth out the drops with an iron (hot) so that they turn into a monolithic coating and spread over the entire surface.

    5. The wax will cover the base and edges. It is a protection against moisture and rust.

Now put a cover on the board and put it in a dark, dry place, where strong temperature changes are excluded.

The best place to store a board in an apartment is horizontally under the bed. A little worse is the closet. Balcony, shed, garage - contraindicated.

Do not forget about your boots

Boots are also worth processing. Take out the inner boot and scroll it in the washing machine. Then dry and treat with shoe sanitizer. The shoe itself is also thoroughly washed, cleaned of dirt and dried.

Assemble everything in reverse order, pack and put away in a dry and dark place, wait for winter.

Is it better to do preservation yourself or in the workshop?

Evaluate your strength. Not everyone is able to cover the board with wax the first time. You can ruin the iron, dirty the carpet or accidentally overheat the base. There is a risk. If you are confident in yourself, do it yourself. If not, then the best option is to contact the service centre.

Depreservation of your board

Before the onset of the season, it is necessary to remove excess wax. This is done with the help of a scraping tool. Remove possible irregularities with a usual dish sponge.

Conclusions

Experienced boarders cover their boards with wax several times per one month. If you ride infrequently, treat the base at least once a year. It is better to do this immediately after the end of the season, then before winter it will be in excellent condition and will only need cleaning, not repair.
